Muslim states have moved quickly to support Lebanon after an explosion tore through the capital killing at least 154 people and injured 5,000 more.
The Tuesday blast at Beirut port caused massive destruction, piling misery on a country saddled by mounting political and economic problems.
Emergency medical aid and field hospitals were dispatched to Lebanon by GCC states who were the first to respond to the crisis. Qatar sent field hospitals to ease pressure on the country’s overwhelmed medical system.
Medical aid from Kuwait arrived a day after the blast left hundreds of thousands homeless. Jordanian king announced the kingdom will provide field hospitals.
Turkey announced its readiness to help rebuild the port of Beirut, which was completely destroyed by the blast. Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay who visited the city on Saturday said Turkey’s port of Mersin, on the Mediterranean, was ready to assist the port of Beirut.
